This post is a placeholder for people to add comments for any films that they notice as sold out (i.e. off sale) when completing the online ticketing process for My Choice packages for TIFF 2014. Feel free to post a comment for anything you see as sold out when you log in to make your picks to help others out.
Note that films may come off sale if people release them before checking out because they changed their mind or failed to complete the check out process. Also, even though a screening sold out during the My Choice selection process, it may become available again when individual tickets go on sale.
Riot Club on 9/6 at RTH is off sale.

ReplyDeleteThe premium screenings of:
ReplyDelete-The Judge (RTH)
-The Riot Club
-This is Where I Leave You
-Foxcatcher
-Wild
are offsale as of 8/24.
In addition, the premium screening of St. Vincent is not available on the selection site at all.
All regular screenings for all films are still currently on-sale. However, the regular screenings of Maggie are not listed on the selection site at all.
Has anyone rushed Roy Thomson Hall before, any success? How many people do they usually take in?
ReplyDeleteAs of 8/25 @ 12:30pm:
ReplyDeleteAs mentioned previously, no screenings of Maggie are listed on the selection site at all. After making a call to the TIFF Bell Lightbox, the rep confirmed that all screenings of Maggie are off-sale. He seemed pretty surprised, too.

Offsale in Regular -
ReplyDeleteWednesday 9/9:
Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem - TIFF Bell Lightbox 3
Thursday 9/10:
TALES OF THE GRIM SLEEPER - Scotiabank 13
St. Vincent was showing up in premium when I checked today.
ReplyDeleteI also noted the same two off sales in regular as the comment above.
Although I was not interested in the premium showings of the films already listed off sale, I would not be a happy Principal and up member if I was faced with all those films being unavailable so early on. I wonder if the single ticket sales are the problem, or if these films have that many seats reserved for industry members.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteRTH must reserve most seats for industry and or press which is why they are off sale already. The capacity is 2200 but I would guess that about 300 balcony seats are actually for sale.
ReplyDeleteNon-premimum off sale at Aug 25, 5:19 PM:
ReplyDeleteForce Majeure, Fri, Sep 5
The Trial of Vivienne Amsalem Gett, Tue, Sep 9
Tales of the Grim Sleeper, Thu, Sep 11
Apparently 2nd screenings at RTH will be limited to balcony too which makes like so sense. Since how will they fill that theater with it being regular?

ReplyDeletethose are ON SALE exclusively to VISA cardholders. sorry for confusion. probably not the right place to psot this, but i can't exactly make a new post on someone else's blog. plus this seems liek the place where anxious TIFF-goes are most likely to look. :)

Mr. Turner, September 9th
ReplyDeleteQuestion: When they say that Balcony only/Best available seats for RTH, does that mean you can only sit in the balcony? Never seen that on a TIFF ticket before.
What is the difference between premium screening for the judge at RTH and princess of yales on Thursday night? I was only able to have tickets at princess of yales, but I am wondering if it's really a PREMIUM screening? Are the movies stars gonna be there too?
ReplyDeleteThey are showing The Judge twice as premium in two different venues on opening night. They do the same for closing night.

The last-minute schedule change of Tales of the Grim Sleeper is explained by its presence on the list of films at Telluride. TIFF's printed Official Film Schedule shows screenings on Sept 6, 7, and 14 but the official web site (as noted in a comment above) gives revised screenings of this film on Sept 10, 11, and 14. Obviously this is to comply with TIFF's new policy of not showing a film in the first four days unless it is (at least) a North American Premiere. It's telling that the printed TIFF programme book lists Tales of the Grim Sleeper as a World Premiere but tiff.net shows it as an "International Premiere". Sorry for going slightly off-topic.

ReplyDeleteTIFF overbooks for two world premieres, including Bill Murray’s St. Vincent
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thestar.com/entertainment/tiff/2014/08/30/tiff_overbooks_for_two_world_premieres_including_bill_murrays_st_vincent.html
the official off-sale list has been updated again - looks like there are a lot fewer films offsale than was originally posted this morning - http://www.tiff.net/festivals/thefestival/offsale
ReplyDeleteYou're kidding. I had my window a few days ago, and couldn't get Mommy tickets. Now it's for sale again? :( I thought I had saved myself a headache...
ReplyDelete@Joshua Aube, that policy was discussed on this blog last year. As I recall, TIFF confirmed that some additional seats to some films would be released on the first day of single-ticket sales, that had been off sale to packageholders.
ReplyDeleteIn the Off Sale list, what is "Private Women's Event" on Sept. 7 at 11:30, in Lightbox 4?
ReplyDeletehow do you find out if a movie includes Q&A from the directors and actors
ReplyDeleteCouldn't get tickets to screenings listed as off-sale here, but not off-sale on TIFF's official list.
ReplyDeleteQ & As depend on which venue you are at and whether or not it is a first screening. Generally, if you are at a first screening anywhere but Roy Thomson Hall and the Elgin, there will be a Q and A. On occasion there have been Q & As at the Elgin.
ReplyDeleteYou may have the director or some actors show up to a second screening, but usually those are when movies are smaller and the second screening if scheduled not long after the first one. The second weekend of TIFF has very few Q & As in my experience.
I ended up caught in that St Vincent overbooking, but I was able to make a quick switch prior to single tickets day and so I have to say that TIFF handled it well based on the situation. I even ended up releasing a Nightcrawler ticket in a showing that was listed off sale so someone else will benefit too.
