TIFF 2017 Off-sale Screenings

Here is a posting for current off-sale films for TIFF 2017. Note that films that appear off-sale here may come back on-sale as tickets are released or if the festival releases additional inventory.

Please post additional off-sale (or films that come back on-sale) in the comments. Thanks!

FYI for the first time ever TIFF has flipped things around. Instead of an off-sale list, TIFF is listing all the screenings that DO have tickets available.

(Assuming the system functions correctly for you)

A disaster this morning. Gaga was sold out within minutes. I was very disappointed. However, got tickets for Call Me By Your Name Premiere and First They Killed My Father and screenings of Stronger and The Mountain Between Us.

I don't like the process this year. I'd rather line up and sit wherever I would like. Larry, is Orchestra, row N a decent ticket for POW? There was nothing available that was better. I may try and exchange Sept. 5th. I hope I can get a nice view of Angelina Jolie! Lol.

@Sarah: N is not bad - it's the 21st row. Here's a seating chart:
http://seatics.tickettransaction.com/PrincessofWalesTheatre_EndStage-Zone-Zp_2012-09-13_2012-09-13_1510_tn.gif

It goes from AA-HH and then A-W.

ICYMI Piers Handling is leaving TIFF after almost 25 years as CEO (and 36 years total). Next year will be his last year. He would have left after this year's festival but it takes time to transition and they actually start working on the next year as soon as one ends so he decided to hang around.

Question: I picked "best available seat" for every one of my picks as default when I selected the films and all my tickets in my Account Manager have assigned seats to them, not just those showing in RTH and POW. I thought only those two theaters had assigned seats? Are the seats in other theaters just arbitrary / should I show up 45 min earlier to line up for the showings per usual?

EJ: "Please note assigned seating is available only at Roy Thomson Hall and the Visa Screening Room which is now at the Princess of Wales Theatre. For all other venues, seating is General Admission (noted as GA or GEN on your ticket)."

Yes, you'll still need to line up in advance for all other theaters. Depending on the screening and venue (see my post above for seating capacity, you may want to be in line earlier than 45 minutes in advance for a better choice of seats.

EJ: Ignore all the sections, seat numbers, etc. on all the tickets at venues other then RTH and POW. They are only there for inventory purposes. Last year they did begin separating people at Elgin and Winter Garden into Upper and Lower, though. I haven't seen any reference to that for this year but, if anything, that's the most they'll do. Otherwise those are meaningless. TIFF said something about the ushers knowing what section to direct you to. But they are definitely not assigned seats.

Got it. Thanks for the info, Larry.

Some of my picks are pretty close together, although I think I have at least an hour between films for all. From what I gather, one should try to show up at least half an hour before even for the showings with assigned seats so that they don't give away your tix for the rush line. Trying to find time to eat lunch and dinner inbetween films is going to be interesting...

Hey folks, happy to report I got Disaster Artist tickets this morning! Woo hoo! So I'd guess pretty much everything other than the top top ones will go back on sale.

That said, I had the double charging problem too. Was able to get a refund already though. Given that happened, I'd assume even more tickets than usual will go back on sale after being returned!

I used to do a massive series on my blog every year "How to Do the Toronto Film Festival." Part 4 was on waiting in line, how early to get there, etc. by venue. This is from 3 years ago but most of it still applies.

http://www.larry411.com/how-to-do-toronto-film-festival-real-tips-real-people-4-2014

Next critical dates and times:

September 3 Insider individual tickets pre-sale (10am—4pm) — only on ticketmaster.ca
September 4 Public individual tickets on sale (10am—4pm) — only on ticketmaster.ca
September 5 Individual ticket sales resume on tiff.net and ticketmaster.ca at 7am
Exchanges begin at 12pm (7am for TIFF Members)

So Roman Israel is non-premium on September 10th?

Yes. I was surprised at that, as well.

As some have indicated, just because you can't add a ticket to your cart right away, it's worth trying again. I received numerous pop-up messages/errors indicating there were no tickets available. I kept trying to add them throughout my session and tickets appeared only moments later. It's definitely worth trying a few times before giving up. Good luck to everyone trying tomorrow and Monday - there will be plenty of great tickets still available.

@Larry - reading some of your posts on your blog - very helpful. Should I plan for Q&A time after every screening or only after the first screening of a film?

Great question, Starr. Every year (at least for the first 9 of my last 11 years there) I would post a report after the festival indicating exactly which screenings had Q&As -- whether they were first, second, third screenings, etc. In general, and this is just on average, most screenings I've attended did have Q&As after the second and even third screening, and fourth in some cases.

There are several factors at play. A film is MORE likely to have a Q&A at second and third screenings if:
1) It is a foreign film. Cast & crew generally don't fly in from, say, Croatia and spend a couple of days and leave. They will be there for the duration and love to do Q&As.
2) It is undistributed. Smaller indies, especially US/CA low budget films, need as much attention as they can get and tend to do Q&As after followup screenings.
3) It is a screening of a film that premiered at Roy Thomson Hall (which is the only venue that almost exclusively does NOT have Q&As) a couple of days prior.

A film is LESS likely to have a Q&A if:
1) It has already been picked up for distribution and will be coming out in theaters or other methods. They don't really need to make the extra effort to promote the film.
2) It is an early morning screening following a big premiere the night before. This is for several reasons. Often, the day after the big premiere is press day when they are doing interviews all day. Also, if it's an early morning screening, they may have been up late partying and will not how up in the morning.

These are generalizations and there are exceptions to all the above. But this is based on 11 years of attending.

I apologize for the verbiage but, for example, this is from my 2014 wrapup. It might help:

One thing that festivals offer over traditional cinemas is an exciting and informative Q&A session with the cast and filmmakers afterward. Only five did not have Q&As of the 30 screenings I attended. Movies with Q&As traditionally wane after the first half of the festival. But this wasn't really the case this year. While only one of my first 21 screenings had no Q&A, just three of my final eight features did not.

Most pictures are shown at least three times. Of the16 first screenings I attended, every single one had a Q&A except Maps to the Stars at Roy Thomson Hall, but that venue never has a Q&A for the first screenings of Galas anyway. There is usually an intro, however, and a dozen cast and crew members made an appearance. Of my 13 second screenings, 10 had Q&As. Only three did not. In two of those cases, the directors at least did an intro (The Riot Club and my repeat screening of Maps to the Stars). The sole second screening with neither an intro nor a Q&A was the sign language Ukrainian film The Tribe. Appropriate irony, perhaps. The only third screening on my schedule (my very last film), Sand Dollars, also had no intro or Q&A.

On the other hand, there were several pleasant surprise talent appearances. Despite severe jet lag, Clouds of Sils Maria's Juliette Binoche did come out to introduce the film although she could not stay for the Q&A. Movies which premiere on opening night often have a second screening the following morning, and the cast traditionally does not show up, for a number of reasons (e.g, press interviews, hangovers). But, to everyone's delight, the legendary Al Pacino made an appearance for the Q&A of The Humbling at Ryerson on Friday morning. Other second screenings at which the stars unexpectedly showed up for Q&As included Whiplash, featuring J.K. Simmons and Miles Teller. The audience was especially lucky as the film's first screening, at Ryerson, did not have a meet & greet following the Q&A while the second screening at TIFF Bell Lightbox did offer an opportunity for fans to meet Simmons and Teller.

I cannot find my tiff weekly?!?!?!?!?! But I suspect I would be out of luck even if I find my code. Seeing wildly overpriced tickets on Stubhub already. Am I the only one who misses the crazy lines to pick up tickets? I would drive in from Buffalo, arriving at least 3 hours before my first screening to weave through the ropes, but I'd still prefer it over seeing all the scalping. Anyhow, I was hoping to grab Long Time Running on the 14th and the Dunkirk screening do we know if these are offsale?

Wow - super helpful, thanks!

A couple examples I'm wondering about - We have Stronger Sept 9 from 10:45-12:44 at Winter Garden and Kodachrome at 3:00 at Scotiabank 1. My son would rather see Molly's Game 11:00 to 1:20 at Elgin. It shows not available so this is probably moot point, but if I was able to get it - would that be too tight considering Q&A?

Sunday we have Brad's Status at 11:45am in Lightbox 1. If I added Children Act in same theatre from 8:45-10:30am would that work since they are same theatre, or because I have to go out and line up would I be at disadvantage because I'd not be able to an hour prior if there was Q&A longer than 15 min?

For first screenings that aren't marked Premium would there still be a red carpet outside if cast is on guestlist? TIFF Help said cast is only confirmed to attend premium screenings. Specifically wondering about Submergence. The premiere screening isn't marked as premium but James McAvoy and Alicia Vikander have been confirmed to attend.

I am already receiving the newsletter but did not get a code with the recent issue in my inbox! Is there a specific newsletter that you are to sign up for as I thought there was only one?

Does anyone have the Insider's code to help out please?

I have also been an insider for a long time and did not receive a code. Please share and help!

Starr:

1) A schedule of Molly's Game ending at 1:20pm at Elgin and Kodachrome starting at 3:00pm at Scotiabank 1 is fine. I would expect that with a brisk walk, you could make it to Scotiabank to get in line a little after 2pm. In fact, this is exactly my schedule! :)

2) You would need to exit the cinema, but not the theater, and hence could make a quick turnaround to get back into the line. Other savvy film-goers are likely to choose the same schedule so you may wish to exit the cinema immediately after any Q&A.

Lori: They update this every few hours:
http://www.tiff.net/tiff/availability.html

I kind of miss the whole box office experience, too. I love having tickets in hand and I know that's still an option but being able to print them at home means there's one less thing to worry about.

Morsmordre: Good question. For years TIFF has been trying to upsell Premium tickets by saying they offer something special, when they usually don't. In my experience EVERY screening in the festival has some kind of red carpet when the stars arrive, Premium or not, although fans can't always witness it. This year they are actually instituting a "Fan Zone' for Roy and POW. So those would have more of an opportunity. That said, Elgin is another story. The "red carpet" is usually set up just inside the doors or in the front part of the lobby where everyone is streaming into the movie. They are very strict about not letting anyone into the lobby before seating starts, and once you enter the building you really can't just stand there. Chances are you might catch a glimpse of Alicia and/or James but that's about it. You're better off just moving down to the first few rows when the movie ends to take pics of the Q&A (if there is one).

Starr: I agree with Brian. I think you're fine. In fact, I go from Elgin to Scotia via the subway and have made it in 10-15 minutes. Same goes for taking the Queen streetcar. Even if you stay until about 10:35 assuming a Q&A for Molly's game you should still get to Scotia well before 2:00 and the line for Kodachrome won't be too bad. Scotia #1 is huge so you'll get a great seat.

With Children Act into Brad's Status you will also have an hour if Children ends around 11:45 including a Q&A. As Brian said, the line is right outside the doors. Lightbox #1 is also huge. You have plenty of time.

Im an insider and haven't received a code yet? Does anyone happen to know what it is? Or how to obtain it?

I didn't receive mine!?!? Could you possibly help me out? I've tried calling but they don't answer the phones until 10am I sent an email as well yesterday and still haven't heard back!?

I haven't received mine yet and I've emailed and tried to call. No one is answering until 10am I'm kind of panicking here.

also looking for an insider code... :(

If you message TIFF on Facebook they have been giving codes if you connect your Facebook account.

The good news is that the system is working this morning. The bad news is it doesn't look like there were any holdbacks and that everything listed as off-sale has no tickets (I was trying for one Dunkirk ticket and had no luck - I was on right at 10am).

@Tess - same for me. System worked really well, but nothing available that I was looking for that was previously unavailable. Only one that did show available on the list that I did not get - The Children Act on Sunday morning. Probably because I was searching for the non available stuff first. I read somewhere that if they release tickets, it is at 7am, so will check back each day then (lucky for me that's 8am my time).
I have The Cured tickets for Sunday night and am hoping will be able to Exchange them for The Cured Saturday night on Sept 5th. Fingers crossed...that will probably be my last transaction.

9 out of 10 times, cast attend the first screening of a movie even if it's not premium.

thanks :) that's what i assumed.

Silly question maybe and a bit off topic, but not sure where else to ask. Not attending any premieres - am I going to feel out of place wearing jeans or capris to screenings? And my son in jeans/shorts? Usually try to do carry on only when flying and want to dress for comfort with all the walking/standing, but not sure what the norm is.

Starr: No, you won't feel out of place wearing jeans or capris; nor will your son in jeans/shorts. Dress is casual during the festival and comfort (especially shoes) is paramount.

You may want to save your nicer garb for any screenings you may have at Roy Thomson, though.

Starr: Not a silly question at all. The first thing that amazed me at my first film festival years ago was how casual it was. Even at World Premieres most guys just wore jeans/khakis and t-shirts/polos and women dressed as they would if having friends over for lunch (not to sound sexist). I brought a pair of dress pants, jacket, and nice shoes just in case and never wore them.

Since then I've been to over 200 festivals and still have never found the need to dress up. Most of the directors show up for the Q&A in jeans and t-shirts even for their World Premieres.

Dress is weekend barbecue. You'd actually look out of place if you and.or your son wore anything more fancy than what you said.

From TIFF:

Here's how to get ready: tiff.net/tiff/thebasics/

To buy tickets: head to ticketmaster.ca/tiff2017

Be patient — Don't hit refresh/back when waiting in the queue (if you do, it will send you to the back of the line).

Tips for buying tickets on September 4 (Public Individual Ticket Day)

1. How to get ready for Individual Ticket Day
a) Head to www.ticketmaster.ca/tiff2017 (Note: You do not need a login to purchase tickets.)
b) Do not hit refresh/back when waiting in the queue (if you do, it will send you to the back of the line).
c) Hit the “Click to Purchase” button.
d) Sort by Event Title, Programme or Screening Date — or Search for the title you want.
e) Aim to move as quickly as possible, as other ticket purchasers are also selecting tickets and your choices may become unavailable.

2. You can remove events that are off-sale from your cart and continue to check out.

3. Please note that holds do not guarantee tickets; all inventory is live until the point of checkout/purchase. (Ticket selections will only be locked once they’ve been added to the cart.)

4. Seating is General Admission, except at Roy Thomson Hall and Princess of Wales Theatre.
a)You can select seats at Roy Thomson Hall or the Princess of Wales on Individual Ticket Days. However, during periods of high online traffic, the system will only offer the best available seats in order to keep everyone moving through the sales process smoothly.
b) If you want to sit with your friends at the Princess of Wales or Roy Thomson Hall (both of which are assigned seating venues), one of you will have to get tickets for the group.

5. You can print tickets at home, display them on a mobile device, or pick them up from a venue box office.

6. Please note: ACCOUNT MANAGER will be shut down during Public Individual Ticket Day; all public will be able to purchase tickets only through www.ticketmaster.ca/tiff2017 on September 4.

7. If you want to see the full ticket price including HST online, you can do so by checking the “fees in” box.

8. You cannot transfer tickets between your Account Manager and www.ticketmaster.ca/tiff2017.

The availability page has said all along that there are limited Suburbicon tickets for Sept 10 at noon but none were available yesterday. Going to try again on the off-chance...

Looks like no allocation for today; I've been on the Dunkirk page since it loaded at 10am and it keeps returning no tickets.

Got in no problem this morning but the two I'm looking for are OFF SALE ... good luck guys

@dan Try 7am same day. Also try randomly since tickets go back in the system as people exchange. I've had luck both ways for off-sale tickets.

Did anyone manage to get Downsizing this morning: Sept 11 at 6pm?

Getting a 403 error now, with the message "Forbidden ... You don't have permission to access /promo/pph1qk on this server."

I got my tix through the package and member pre sale and note that not all the tickets seem to be available on my cell phone. Last year I recall being able to load them all up on my phone but this year it looks like events at Ryerson, Winter Garden and Scotia bank don't work.
Even the TIFF app doesn't show a bar code. I have sent an email to customer relations but no response yet. It will be a pain to have a mix of printed tickets and mobile tickets otherwise.

Any advice would be appreciated. My friend and I accidentally purchased 3 extra tickets for The Upside, September 9th at 12:15, Princess of Wales. We would like to exchange or sell them for the ticket price but are at a bit of a loss re how to accomplish this. I am sure there would be people interested in these tickets but don't know how to reach them.

Spoke to TIFF.net and they said that we should be able to put them up for exchange tomorrow on the website but I checked today and none of the tickets that we have purchased show up?

This is our first year at TIFF - your wisdom would be appreciated.

Maureen

For off-sale POW premium tickets, just wondering what would be my best option... refresh ticketmaster site everyday at 7 am to check for new inventory? or check tiff.net? festival box office on the day of screening? :( also a little confused on whether i check ticketmaster or tiff.net for tickets on sept. 5, and as well, someone above mentioned "trades" - is there an official forum or system where we can exchange our tickets with others?

thanks for your help!

@Nicole - I got this from TIFF email support - not sure if it helps?

'Bar codes won't generate until Sept 5th, so wait until then to check for the bar codes.'

Got my ticket for Gaga!! :D

I've been trying sporadically all day to get tix for the Sept 10 screening of "The Florida Project". Right from 10am right up 'till the end of sales at 4pm, Ticketmaster repeatedly told me no tix were available.

But now checking TIFF's availability page, they have the screening listed as being available (with limited availability). How does this happen?

Same thing with some others that showed limited availability. Suburbicon Sept 10 at noon has been liastes as that all along but could not get tickets yesterday or today - and it's still on the list.

If you didn't find the tickets you want today - you're not out of luck yet. Since exchanges begin tomorrow, more tickets will be added to the system throughout the week.

The question is - will they become available to the public as soon as they are returned, or will the festival wait and release them all the morning of the screening?

Brad: They go right back into the system as soon as they are returned. It's all computerized -- TIFF doesn't touch them.

Exchanges of package tickets for non members starts at noon tomorrow?

Exchanges start at 12 pm for non-members and 7 am for members.

I am unable to access my account at 7.06 am. Anyone else?

Oh, yes. The "Oops" message is working overtime it seems.

Trying to sign in at Account Manager but the site is having issues with technical difficulties .

not working form e either.

Fifteen minutes of non-service and counting.

Ok so I clicked BUY TICKETS next to a film on the Availability page and now I'm in a queue to get in...

This sucks I cant get Gaga tickets anyone had any luck? :(

Is anyone able to exchange? I get the wheel of death every time.

I get the gaga page but its faded out and says not avail....COME ONNNNN! should i call?

Geo, let me know if you're able to reach anyone. I called earlier but no response.

nothing. this TOTALLY sucks. :(

Was actually close to completely my exchange when I realized "Oops" on me -I'd chosen the wrong date in my haste to get out! Now that I've chosen the correct date for exchange, I'm back to the "wheel of death". Great phrase, Damien!

is anyone else here trying for GAGA?

Got one! But if you check out to secure your ticket, you're sent back in the queue for the next exchange!

you got GAGA Damien?? congrats!!! need that luck!!! <3

I am trying for two tickets for Gaga and have 3 tickets for The Upside,12:15 September 9, POW available for exchange or at face value.
maurrobertson@gmail.com

Geo, sorry, no, I got "I, Tonya"

Maureen if you pull up gaga please get an extra two?!?!? I am begging! You can get up to 4! im desperate now!!!

this will be our 20th tiff and i remember when it was all done by sheets that were fedx'ed to us and had to be returned the next day, at first then later 3 days. a process based on the lottery where you had very little input. been going to palm springs festival 15 years and they have alway used computer scheduling with very few problems. i complained to tiff and was part of the experiment with computers about 7-8 years ago. under the old system it was one and done. you sent in requests and you either got them or perhaps second choice or vouchers. not sure which system i like best but either way i have always gotten at least 90% of first choices.

Done! Was able to get I Tonya (Sept 9, 11.30 am), Mudbound (Sept 14, 11 am) and Kings (Sept 14, 2.30).

I'm a TIFF Insider, not paid member. In account manager I can pick the Exchange button and pick tickets. Can I exchange now - or will I need to wait until noon? Also looks like I have ability to purchase tickets through account manager now. Is that where I should be making purchases, not through ticketmaster. I can see all my tickets in account manager too...even though the individual ones were with my ticketmaster account (I thought so anyway.. they have different passwords, but same email).

Starr can you pull up Gaga tickets? :)

Anyone else trying to exchange tickets and getting never ending loading before "Checkout"?

@Geo - haha - nope!

Yes, I'm not able to exchange either.

I can't exchange either and have been trying for the last two hours.

What I've learned is that if there are no seats available for the event you want to exchange your ticket, then instead of saying there are none available, the site will just spin the wheels. When I exchanged one of my tickets for an event for which there were seats available, the site processed my exchange without issues. It's a bit of a bother, but I'd recommend you try to buy individual tickets first to see if there are any left to buy before trying to do an exchange.

would this exchange thing work for GAGA? hmmm

I'm getting the wheel regardless, it seems. Just when you thought they had exhausted the opportunities for annoying and wasting your time.

Hi guys, looking for some advice/help: I have tickets to "Suburbicon" at 6:30 pm on Saturday the 9th at the Princess of Wales Theatre. That same night, I also have tickets to The Killing of a Sacred Deer at 9:00 pm at the Elgin theatre. Both films are premieres, so I'm expecting Q&A's, etc that will affect my schedule. Do you think I will make it to 'Sacred Deer' after 'Suburbicon?' Right now theres about an hour and a half of time after "Suburbicon", but there will also most likely be a Q&A, and of course travel time. Just looking for some advice, kind of worried I might not make it to the second movie in time.

@mphillip92 You don't have 'an hour and a half of time after "Suburbicon"'. You have a half-hour, as per the schedule. It's about a 15 minute walk between venues if you hustle (plus if you're pulling into the Elgin at the last second, it'll probably take you a little extra time to find a seat). Gonna be tight :/

Hi guys. I need your help and advice.

I bought the premium ticket for 'I tonya'(Sep 8th 09:30pm)

1) Is there a red carpet before the screening? Then ticket holders can go to the red carpet to see actors? I think I have to line up 30 minutes prior. Then I'd miss the red carpet?

2) Is Q&A section after the movie ends? I tonya is from 9:30pm to 11:30pm. But I have to take a bus at 12:30am. So Would I miss the Q&A too?

That will be *very* tight MrP. Assuming Suburbicon even starts on time (they rarely do for big premieres), it ends at 815p. Figure at least 15min of Q&A if not more like 30min. You then have to Uber/taxi across King to the Elgin, where if everything goes without a hitch, you will arrive just for 9pm. With no reserved seating you'll be hunting for a seat ... my advice would be to hover around the reserved rows until they inevitably let non VIPs take whatever isnt used by the big shots. To me it sounds like a good ol TIFF adventure but if you feel anxious just reading this I think you have two options:

* skip one of the films
* skip the Suburbicon Q&A

Good luck!

Am I missing something with the exchanges through the TIFF site? Are you guys able to do it?

I've had a lot of issues with the application on my phone as well, so I'm PRINTING all my tickets - buyer beware!

@The TV Snob - wouldn't he risk not getting a seat at all if they let rush people in?

I called the 1-888 number and was on hold to ask a question for over 1.5 hours. Agent did my exchange for me - she offered and since people were having trouble, figured I would let her do it.

One thing I'm still unclear about - even after asking her questions: I still don't see barcodes in TIFF account manager. Two of my screenings (booked from the package)have the little cell phone picture by them and when I go into the tickets, they say 'Eligible for Transfer'. The others (some from package, rest individually purchased) just say 'Barcode Unavailable'. I asked her if I printed them, if I would still be able to use Mobile if the barcodes showed up. She said I could if the barcodes were the same, otherwise I'd have to use most recent. That makes me nervous - like I might try to use a printed copy or mobile ticket and find out it doesn't work. The tickets she just exchanged for me, she sent me as a PDF in email and they have a barcode. Wondering if I should just get them to send all to me like that and print them. Any insight anyone? Seems unnecessarily complicated.

I exchanged one seat... total... so far... it ws a spinning wheel anyways... before that... it randomly worked once...

@Starr, I received all my tickets as PDFs with bar codes and I printed them in high resolution, so it should all work out :)

@The TV Snob:

Thank you for the reply and for the advice. I have a friend who is also going to see "The Killing of a Sacred Deer" and she said she can try and save me seat. If I can get there early enough, I'm hoping it will work out. I'm also going to use uber/a taxi to get to the theatre, which will *hopefully* give me a bit more time. but we'll see.

Worst case scenario, I can always sell my ticket to "The Killing of a Sacred Deer", since I am more excited for Suburbicon.

Thanks again for your help and suggestions! If you have any other suggestions or similar experiences I'd love to hear them and get a better handle on the festival. It's pretty daunting for a first-timer!

@Damien - I think I may ask them to send me the rest as PDF too and print. Or would it be same if I click the print option in my account?

Not a problem at all, have been running across town for 20+ yrs on similar TIFF adventures. And for a while, you had films on the Yonge/Bloor corridor as well as King St West. I'm sure others here can relate to the ol' Manulife-to-Lightbox-to-HotDocs jaunt :) Honestly, it's all part of the fun of TIFF, makes NO sense to any of my friends or family who haven't done it - "why not just see it when it opens for 1/3 the price and with no lines?!" ... you either get TIFF or you don't ;)

Good luck. Having a friend save you a seat is the BEST option, have been lucky to have that happen many times. I'd still get out of the PoW by 840 latest just to be safe. And you may find a nice jog across King is faster then sitting in an Uber.

Enjoy!

Just did an exchange and it was very easy. Swapped "In The Fade" Tue Sep 12 930pm at Elgin for "A Fantastic Woman" same daybut 630pm Elgin. A seat map came up where I actually had to choose a seat but it's all GA so I assume the seat doesn't mean anything.

PS: chose "Will Call" for all my tickets. I like to go to the box office and get the official tickets printed anyway

I keep getting spinning wheel of death even though I'm trying to exchange for a ticket that I checked is still available to buy using Ticketmaster?

Me too, I'm calling them to do it over the phone now, wait time said 45min. Such a waste of my time...and then if I end up having to exchange again I assume I'll have to call and wait all over again.

Selling tickets to the following:

55 Steps - Fri Sep 15 - 6:30 PM - RTH
Disobedience - Sun Sep 10 - 6:00 PM - POW

Does anyone know of a site most people are using for ticket transfers? I have an extra ticket to the Michael Jackson Thriller showing that's sold out, and am looking to find anyone who wants to buy it.

Akash Sood: https://tifftalk.blogspot.com/2017/08/2017-ticket-trades.html is the preferred page. This page is for off sale screenings (and other random chatter).

Is anyone still having issues exchanging your tickets online?

I just tried to exchange and still got spinning wheel of death on two different browsers.

Here's a contest for the LADY GAGA premiere! https://tiff.apps.umbel.com/8a0/tiff-17-gaga-five-foot-two-contest/

Eureka! I finally got around the spinning wheel of death in the exchange process; turns out I needed to disable the "Ask Before Using Flash" setting.

I wasn't sure if this is the right thread to ask this, but when buying or selling your tickets (even at face value), how is everyone conducting their exchange?

I can't imagine that everyone is available to meet in person, so when you transfer them online, does the buyer pay first? Is it usually via Paypal or do you use another service? What's the standard procedure? Curious to see what others are experiencing.

Brad, last year, I bought a ticket from someone I met on this site (it was for the first showing of Maren Arde's Toni Erdman, which turned out to be one of my favourite films of the entire year). I'm pretty sure I sent the money via paypal first, then waited for him to email me with the transfer ticket information (we had a minor snafu because he mis-typed my email address the first time around but it got all sorted out a few hours later.) It's a good faith transaction among strangers so there is always an element of risk, but I figure it's like buying something on ebay. You pay first then wait for the goods/services to be sent to you.

What's the difference between a show showing "off sale" vs showing the "continue" button and then getting a pop up saying there are no more tickets? I keep getting so excited when i see "continue" but there are never tickets for me :(

@Chuck&Julie That "continue" button is full of empty promises. TIFF loves to toy with our emotions :)

Is it ok if two of us are waiting in a line, for one to go to washroom or to get food and the other hold the place? Don't want to break any etiquette rules. :)

Starr: Yes, that is totally acceptable. In fact, if you make line friends around where you're waiting, you both can go to the washroom and get food in parallel. Just be sure to make it back to the line ~30+ minutes in advance, else you run the risk of the theater letting folks in without your being in line.

On our way home now - we had such a great weekend. Thanks so much for the help here and Larry from your blog. So very helpful!

I have 2 Ladybird tickets for Friday Sept 15 that I would like to swap for Ladybird tix on Sat. Sept 16
